A Year of Poems – Day 110

The final straw to break the camel’s back
came in with all the wishes of a star
shot like a gun from the bow of a ship
which has finally come in to harbor.
Since it has traveled all this way to break
this camel’s old and hoary back weighed down
with waiting for a world with no more straw
pointlessly placed on a back to test stress
bearing capacity, then it is right
to question the premise which brought it here:
Is star travel all it’s cracked up to be?
Could we better spend our wishes on deeds
and our straw for nests, roofs, and feed?
